Frank Agraz has worked in the energy efficient lighting retrofit community for more than 25 years and serves as Director of Energy Efficiency at Eco Engineering. He and his team develop turnkey lighting projects and provide technical and educational support to the customer. Prior to his current role, he co-founded Maneri-Agraz Enterprises, a national turnkey lighting retrofit provider. He serves on the Board of Directors as Past President of the Illuminating Engineering Society. Mr. Agraz is Lighting Certified by the NCQLP and is the immediate past Exam Committee Chair, responsible for the group that develops and maintains the content of the annual LC exam. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a BS in Industrial Distribution.

Alessa Aguayo has over a decade of experience in the lighting industry, she currently leads the NYC Specification Sales team for Coronet LED. Farukh Aslam

Farukh Aslam is the Chief Executive Officer of Sinclair Digital Services, Inc. a low voltage design & consulting company developing Digital DC-Microgrid Buildings. Aslam has been in the telecom industry since starting a VOIP company in 1999 in Fort Worth and was a very early adopter of Cisco Call Manager, first enterprise VOIP office phone system. Also in 2003 he started a FTTH (Fiber to the Home) company in Pakistan when telecom was deregulated which was only the 3rd country in Asia to offer this technology and today has grown to over 2000 employees in several large cities. Using VOIP as a stepping stone, Aslam then began exploring more broadly the use of PoE (Power over ethernet) in creating a DC building infrastructure. In 2019, Aslam successfully developed the Sinclair Marriott Autograph Hotel which is widely considered the most diverse PoE and DC Microgrid project in North America. From the completion of the Sinclair Hotel, Aslam created Sinclair Digital (SD) to bring expertise of the sustainability and cost benefits of a DC building infrastructure to the marketplace. Since its inception SD has been involved in several design build projects and continues to evolve DC infrastructure in buildings.

Hannah Ball is the Technical Sales Specialist for RAYN Growing Systems and helps growers and researchers find the best lighting solution for their applications. A key part to matching customers with lighting systems, Hannah creates light simulations to ensure systems are optimized and meet project specifications. Previously, Hannah was a Plant Genetics Lab Manager at the University of Wyoming Research and Extension Center. There she performed genetic transformations and maintained plant material in tissue culture. Hannah then worked at Plenty as a Research Associate of Lighting. Researching the quality, duration, and intensity of light necessary to reach crop goals. She has been educating researchers and growers on RAYN Growing Systems capabilities for two years. Hannah holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology with minors in Horticulture and Wildlife and Fisheries Biology Management from the University of Wyoming in 2017 and a Master of Science in Secondary Education from Black Hills State University in 2023.

Edward Bartholomew is the principal of Bartholomew Lighting, a Black-owned design consultancy based in Cambridge, MA. He has more than thirty years of experience designing sustainable, inspiring, and award-winning architectural lighting systems. His extensive project list includes memorials, corporate headquarters, parks, and non-profit facilities. Edward is an invited speaker on lighting technology, energy efficiency strategies, and social justice at regional, national, and international conferences. In addition, Edward has an MFA in Architectural Lighting Design (1995) from Parsons School of Design. He is a professional member of the International Association of Lighting Designers and is a LEED Accredited Professional. Edward serves on the IES Diversity, Inclusion, Equity and Respect (DIER) committee. He previously founded Fire & Water, where he designed and produced energy-efficient and materials conscious light fixtures. Bergman is the Program Director for the New York School of Interior Design’s Master of Professional Studies in Sustainable Interior Environments and an adjunct assistant professor at Parsons School of Design. Craig Bernecker

Dr. Bernecker has been a lighting educator for over 40 years. He is founder of The Lighting Education Institute and Professor of Lighting Design and Director of the Masters of Fine Arts in Lighting Design program at Parsons School of Design, The New School. Prior to founding The Lighting Education Institute, he directed the lighting education program within the Department of Architectural Engineering at Penn State University. He has published more than fifty articles on research and education in lighting design and illumination engineering and is known for his work on the psychological aspects of lighting. He also maintains an active consulting practice, providing lighting design services and serving as an expert consultant on many projects and as an expert witness on many legal cases. He regularly serves as a peer reviewer for lighting research proposals and projects sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. He further served for 15 years as Educational Facilitator for LIGHTFAIR International, coordinating the development of t he annual conference program, and annually taught the IES online lighting certification review course in preparation for the NCQLP LC exam. Dr. Bernecker has served the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) as Vice-President for Technical and Research Activities (1991-1993) and Vice-President for Educational Activities (1993-1995). More recently, he served the Society in its highest office, as Senior Vice-President for 2003-2004, President for 2004-2005, and Immediate Past President for 2005-2006. As a result of his contributions to lighting education, the Society named him a Fellow in 1991, and for his service to the IES, the Distinguished Service Award in 2017. He also recently received the 2021 LIT Lighting Design Awards Lifetime Achievement Award.

Jennifer Brons earned her bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of California- Berkeley (cum laude) and her MS in Lighting from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Since 1997, her work has focused on lighting design applications and human factor studies for new lighting technologies. Over her more than 20-year career, Ms. Brons has developed lighting designs and specifications for a wide variety of commercial and residential clients. After practicing lighting design on sabbatical in London, she taught lighting design as part of the MS in Lighting degree program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for more than 10 years. In addition to her design and research activities, she develops educational material about the more effective use of light.

During his career he worked on a fluorescent innovation team (2.5 yrs.), lead new product development projects in metal halide (14 yrs.) and linear fluorescent lamps (2 yrs.), served as Global LFL Systems Manager (6 yrs.) and Manager of Global Industry Standards (10.5 yrs.) for GE Lighting and GE Current, a Daintree company. Mark is also active in both regional and international lighting industry standards communities. He also serves as convener of the advisory group on lighting systems (AG 4) to IEC TC 34. Currently, he is the director of educational programs for the Light and Health Research Center (LHRC) at Mount Sinai. Kevin Houser obtained a Ph.D. in Architectural Engineering from Penn State University in 1997, where he specialized in applied illuminating engineering. Today, he is a Professor at Oregon State University with a joint appointment at the US Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. He is the former editor-in-chief of LEUKOS, the journal of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) of North America and co-founder of Lyralux, Inc. He has published more than 125 publications about lighting in the built environment. His papers have been awarded the CIBSE Leon Gaster and Walsh Weston Awards and the IES Taylor Technical Talent Award three times. He is a Fellow of IES and a recipient of the IES Presidential Award. His work focuses on human perceptual and biological responses to light in a context that balances human needs with planetary health.

Michael chairs the Power, Lighting, and Renewables subcommittee for the 2024 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). He is a vice chair of the ASHRAE 189.1 Standard for High-Performance Green Buildings committee. He is involved with many standards development organizations, including the California Energy Commission, National Electrical Manufacturers Association, and Illuminating Engineering Society. He leads the HOK Lighting Group, eight lighting designers in three HOK offices—St Louis, Kansas City, and New York with services available in all HOK offices. Tom has worked on most project types, with a heavy focus on Healthcare in last 20 years and was a lighting product designer for four fixtures including Focal Point (Facetta and Apollo w/LED Readers). As Director of Lighting Design, Tom strives to create lighting solutions carefully tailored to provide the most appropriate visual environment for the client’s specific tasks, activities and budget. Much of her work has focused on reducing environmental impact, where she has prioritized carbon reduction and human centered lighting design. In her time at Atelier Ten, she has earned both LEED AP ID+C and WELL AP certifications. Chelsea enjoys being involved in multiple industry organizations including GreenLight Alliance, Women In Lighting Design, IES and IALD. She graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology with a BFA in Interior Design and is based in New York.

Wojciech Kryspin, MSc is a specialist in VIZULO, with already 17 years of experience in professional lighting. As an Outdoor Product Development Director, he provides extensive technical support both at the stage of implementation and sales of products around the world. Only this year, he has already conducted conferences and product trainings in Sweden, France, Israel, Spain, Portugal, Australia, USA and many other countries.

Wojciech has a background in electronics and electrical engineering, specializing in Lighting Technology. After graduation at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Poland, he has started as a lighting designer where over many years, he has completed thousands of lighting projects both indoor and outdoor throughout the Europe.

His next roles as a product and quality manager and very close cooperation with R&D departments, factories and lighting labs allowed him to further expand his detailed knowledge in terms of practical aspects and the use of products in real projects. Now he continues his fascinating journey through the lighting business and as he claims, his inborn curiosity does not allow him to pass by a new product indifferently, before he first opens it, breaks it and then fixes it back.

James Kuchenbecker

James Kuchenbecker received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 2004 and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering in 2008 from Marquette University where he was the recipient of the GAANN fellowship. His graduate research was conducted in the laboratories of Jay and Maureen Neitz. After receiving his Ph.D. Jim continued to work with the Neitz’s as a postdoctoral scholar, and it is during this time that he first got interested in intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells and their role in setting the circadian time in humans. Presently, Jim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Washington. Jim has been an author on over 70 peer reviewed publications in scientific journals, including Nature, and he is listed as an inventor on 2 patents.

Michael Lehman LC, MIES, LEED AP ID+C, GGP, CLCP is a Lighting Industry and Design professional with over 30 years of experience. He is the General Manager of ConTech Lighting, a Leviton Company. He has worked as a designer and for other lighting organizations in different positions including Application Engineering, Marketing, Product Development, Strategy, Operations, Sales, and Training. He designed hundreds of projects for many different applications including architecture, theatre, and entertainment. He serves on the NCQLP Exam Writing Committee, acts as the Indoor Environment Subcommittee Chair for the Green Globes ANSI Consensus Body, serves on the WELL Light Advisory Committee, is Chair of the IES Light and Design Committee, and is a member if the IES Retail committee. He has held several other committee positions in the past, including Chair of the Green Globes ANSI Consensus Body, Chair of the Greenbuild SPWG, LEED IE TAG member, and with several other IES committees. Jay Neitz

Jay Neitz PhD holds the Bishop endowed Professorship in Ophthalmology at the University of Washington in Seattle, USA. He seeks to understand how the human visual system operates by studying the entire process of seeing, from genes to behavior. He has discovered how genetic mutations influence the most common vision problems that affect modern humans, including myopia, colorblindness and disrupted circadian rhythm. He is the leading expert on the of study the role of color information in driving behavior including the influence of color on circadian rhythms. His research has also triggered a reconsideration of how neural circuits for seeing color and drive rhythms become established, and he has been working out the neurobiological mechanisms driving the circadian rhythm using a combination of reconstructions of retinal circuitry from serial electron microcopy, electrophysiology and psychophysics. She has 25 years of experience in the lighting industry as a research scientist with the Lighting Research Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Director of Customer Education at Lighting Analysts, Inc. She has extensive research and engineering experience in horticultural lighting, lighting software, product testing, lighting controls, photometry, daylighting, outdoor lighting and circadian rhythms. He is the author of more than 100 scientific and technical articles related to vision, lighting engineering, and human factors and was the editor-in-chief of the 8th and 9th editions of the IESNA Lighting Handbook. His current research projects include the development of new metrics to improve the acceptance of energy-efficient lighting technologies, the study of the effects of light on circadian disruption, and research on reducing the market barriers to widespread use of energy-efficient lighting. Yan Ren-Butcher

Yan Ren-Butcher, Ph.D., is a Technical Sales Plant Scientist at RAYN Growing Systems (parent company-ETC). After earning her Ph.D. in Horticulture Science from Texas A&M University in 2011, Yan began her professional career as a Plant Scientist at Phillips Research, the lighting company. In addition to managing various research projects with universities, she co-published the results of multiple studies in peer-reviewed journals. In 2015, she started a Product Manager role at Hubbell Lighting to facilitate photobiology findings into new product developments. Afterwards, she shifted back to the scientific world and served as Director of Horticulture Science at Illumitex, a leading LED horticultural lighting company, until August 2019. Her job focused primarily on providing horticultural LED lighting educational trainings and scientific contents for marketing materials (such as white papers, grower guides and blogs), leading product trials, collaborating with research institutions and universities, as well as providing sales support to customers/growers. She represented previous companies as a member of several standard development committees. With her years of work experience in horticultural lighting for controlled environmental agriculture (CEA), she joined an indoor vertical farming company, 80 Acres Farms, from 2021 to 2022 as a Plant Scientist, to lead multiple research projects helping improve grow recipes in several leafy green crops.

Yan possesses countless years of experience, focusing largely on helping to bridge the knowledge gap between lighting and horticulture to ensure her customers understand the value of lighting technology to discover the right lighting solutions for their applications. 2024 marks Scott's 46th year in lighting, a career that has encompassed product design, marketing, product management, strategy development and lighting education. Products Scott has worked on have earned numerous patents and awards including the Industrial Design Excellence Award and LightFair's Most Innovative Product and Technical Innovation awards. He has always been involved in pushing the envelope for critical topics of the time, from driving the adoption of low voltage lighting and CFL lamps in the 1980s and 90s to developing the first commercially viable LED track and recessed solutions in the early 2000s and most recently being a grain of sand in the oyster to push us to embrace wellness and sustainability as fundamental elements of good lighting. Scott has a BFA in Industrial Design from the University of Illinois and an MBA from De Paul University. When he is not working he enjoys traveling, yoga, cooking, walking in nature, writing, advocating for peace and non-violence and spending quality time with his wife, six children, grandchildren and close friends.

James Salazar

James Salazar is an internationally regarded expert in the field life cycle assessment, serving on the United States ISO technical committee (TC207) tasked with developing international standards on LCA practice. In his current role as Sustainability Director with WAP Sustainability, James manages LCA and Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) projects, with a focus on large-scale industry projects to support emerging buy-clean requirements across North America. Most recently, Salazar is leading the LCA analysis of five key architectural performance luminaires, producing the first Industry-Average EPDs for the lighting industry through the Greenlight Alliance LCA Incubator pilot. As former Director of EPD Services with the Athena Sustainable Materials Institute and Principal of Coldstream Consulting, James has developed LCAs and EPDs for a range of building products. In addition to EPD development, James has also served as a methodology advisor for Athena’s Impact Estimator for Buildings software. Salazar has also developed LCA-based calculators for building materials including concrete and advised on material-specific issues such as biogenic carbon. The concrete EPD software developed by Coldstream Consulting is currently used by multiple industry associations (PCI, ACPA, CRMCA, CPCI) to produce concrete EPDs as well as several hundred concrete facilities. Salazar is a member of the North American Product Category Rules Committee reviewing luminaire life cycle assessment frameworks.

Jose Dos Santos

Jose dos Santos has more than 30 years of experience in design and design management. He started his career as an industrial designer in Portugal. Dos Santos founded and sold two European design companies and served as Chief Design Officer for a large Internet company. In 2011, dos Santos joined Masco as a design director and stepped into his current role as Signify’s Head of Design, Americas in 2016. He received his Ph.D. in Philosophy for design(er) leadership in large corporations from the European University. He also earned a master’s degree in industrial design from Central Saint Martins in the UK and an executive master’s degree in product design and development from Northwestern University. Dos Santos has focused his work on user-centric design, and he is a diversity, equity and inclusion champion at Signify and within the lighting industry.

Leela Shanker is a New York-based designer and artist leading a new Design Lab in house to sustainability firm, WAP Sustainability. Formerly a lighting designer with Borealis Lighting Studio of Consulting Engineering firm BR+A and sustainability technical expert advising the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (the research arm of the U.S. Federal Government's Department of Energy), Shanker is a member of the Product Category Rules Committee determining the framework for Life Cycle Assessment in North America to enable a consistent global approach. Through the GreenLight Alliance (GLA) - an international network of lighting professionals progressing industry-led standards, research and advocacy for circular design principles - she founded the Lighting Industry Life Cycle Assessment Incubator. In collaboration with Athena Sustainable Materials Institute and the International Association of Lighting Designers’ Lighting Industry Resource Council, she leads a collaborative effort between 30 manufacturing firms and 68 design firms from every continent in an initiative spearheading global harmonization of the lighting industry’s approach to Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Her work with the AIA’s Committee on the Environment (COTE), MEP2040 and Carbon Leadership Forum New York chapter address lighting-specific issues related to Embodied Carbon and LCA. She holds a Master of Architecture (Hons) and Master of Fine Arts - Lighting Design from Parsons School of Design and Bachelor of Law and Commerce from the University of Sydney. As a member of the Social Architecture track with the New Museum’s NEW INC incubator, her practice investigates light culture and the sociology of light. As Founder of the Flint Collective NYC Inc, a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, her work was recognized in 2021 as recipient of a Lumen Award with Special Citation for Lighting as a Tool for Social Impact.

Jane Slade, MID, LC, IES is the Specification Sales Manager for Speclines in Massachusetts, a lighting manufacturer’s representative agency specializing in public outdoor lighting through an interdisciplinary approach of blending design, science and the latest technology. She is a lighting educator and researcher at Anatomy of Night (www.anatomyofnight.com), researching the many ways in which light impacts our environment, human health, wildlife, biodiversity, and interdependence. Jane is the host of the podcast Starving for Darkness, which advocates for sustainable lighting and was accepted into the 2021 Progress Report of the IES. Jane Slade is the International Dark-Sky Association’s 2021 Dark Sky Defender for North America, and a Richard Kelly Grant recipient for explorations into the social and emotional impacts of light and lighting, through her work in creating lighting fixtures from waste materials in India, and through art installations focused on manipulating emotional experiences with light and color. She is a member of the IES Outdoor Nighttime Environment (ONE) Committee and a contributor to LD+A on the topic of Wildlife, and is currently writing a book about the natural daylight cycle. In her spare time, she is a yoga teacher.

Her background in engineering brings a technical, problem-solving approach to her designs, and encourages a drive for full discipline coordination early on projects. Attila Uysal has been practicing lighting design in New York City for over 25 years. He joined SBLD in 1996 and became a partner in 2002. Attila has since joined the Lumen Architecture PLLC team as of 2019.

With his architectural training and industrial design background, he is well suited to complex architectural interior and exterior projects. Attila's passion is in the detail and technical challenges that each project represents. He believes that lighting design becomes increasingly multifaceted and nuanced, encompassing a diverse array of demand, using more creative and innovative design approaches, technologies and methodologies.

Throughout his 23-year tenure at SBLD, he has served with his designer and leadership capacity for many of the firm's significant project types including interior, exterior and historic restoration. He specializes in the design and detailing of custom light fixtures and daylighting analysis.

As a lighting designer and a teacher, with his architectural training and industrial design background, he continues to evolve his design vision through technical investigation and academia. He is interested in exploring the link between architecture and lighting (both daylighting and electrical lighting) with the emphasis being on energy saving, controls and sustainability. Mr. Uysal continues teaching at NY School of Interior Design and has an active relationship as a visiting design critic at the Parsons Schools of Design.

Graham Whittaker

Graham looks back on a career over 30 years in the lighting Industry. Originally from the UK, he studied product design, but switched to lighting design thereafter. He worked two years at ERCO in the application team and five successful years as a Lighting Designer/Consultant at Equation.

Graham has lectured extensively three continents and has spoken at conferences in Europe, Australia, and the US. While in the UK he was part of the team that created the British Council for Offices 'Guide to Lighting'. In Australia he worked with the Green Building Council on the creation of a Lighting Comfort Credit. With the aim to recognize and encourage the design of well-lit spaces that provide a high degree of comfort to users.

In addition to working with the GBCA, Graham was an active member of the Lighting Council of Australia. Teaming up with the heads of various manufactures and Australian Standards to work on various lighting topics that effected the lighting community in Australia.

Since arriving in the US he has been an active member of the IALD LIRC and is part of the team to introduce IALD first CEU lighting program LERN. Andrea Wilkerson

Andrea Wilkerson is a Senior Lighting Research Engineer at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, focusing on the evaluation of emerging lighting technology in support of the U.S. DOE SSL Program. She earned her doctorate from Penn State and her BS and MAE from the University of Nebraska in the respective architectural engineering programs. Andrea serves as an Associate Editor of LEUKOS, as President of the IALD Education Trust Board of Directors, on the NCQLP Exam committee and the Oregon State University School of Civil and Construction Engineering Industry Advisory Board.

Zhou serves as Vice President of the US-China Railroad Friendship Association, a non-profit organization focusing on commemorating Chinese railroad workers’ contribution in building the first transcontinental railroad in the U.S. He is a long-time community activist with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. Scott has spent 30 years in the lighting industry, mostly with controls, working for Current Lighting, Hubbell Lighting Inc., and Lutron Electronics Inc., Scott also spent the last 15 years on ASHRAE’s SSPC135 BACnet Committee writing the BACnet Standard and only person from the lighting industry to hold an officer position presently serving as Vice Chairman. He is also a past chair of BACnet International’s Education committee and a past recent recipient of BACnet International’s “Leader of the Pack” award. He has written multiple articles about BMS Integration and BACnet for publications like Consulting Specifying Engineer, Electroindustry, BACnet Foundations, BACnet Journal, and ASHRAE Journal.
