In the last twenty years, lighting in the residential space has undergone a massive transition. Recent scientific findings have indicated that the connection between light and humans, the environment and animals is even more pervasive than originally believed. That means the user community will be inundated with more lighting information and choices. This shift will require the lighting professional to communicate in a way that helps, rather than baffles design professionals, salespeople, contractors and end consumers. This session lays out the problem and offers solutions and suggestions for better lighting communication.
Attendees should have a basic understanding of lighting terms and metrics.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will learn ways to discuss color that will make product selection easier and in keeping with what is needed for the space.
- Glare will be shown and explained in a way that the average consumer will understand and can easily avoid in their residence including exterior lighting that preserves the nighttime environment
- Ways to talk about the connection of light and health, including better sleep, will be presented to attendees so it is easier for them to apply in customer conversations
- Attendees will learn about Age-In-Place lighting requirements and how to communicate them and potential solutions to customers
