Credits LU | HSW TBD
Intermediate
This course explores the critical role of lighting in promoting health, comfort, and performance within the built environment. Participants will examine the WELL Building Standard v2 framework, with emphasis on how daylight access, glare control, shading, and window proximity enhance visual comfort and occupant well-being. Strategies for daylight simulation in lighting design will be introduced to extend natural light deeper into interior spaces. The program also highlights how light quality, color rendering, and controllability affect satisfaction and safety. Attendees will gain practical knowledge to create healthier, more sustainable environments where lighting design supports both wellness and productivity.
Learning Objectives
- Describe the purpose, framework, and structure of the WELL Building Standard v2, including its role in promoting health, wellness, and environmental performance in buildings.
- Explain strategies for enhancing light exposure, including glare control, shading design, and window access, to improve occupant comfort, productivity, and visual connection to nature.
- Discuss daylight design, simulation techniques, and circadian lighting principles within WELL to extend natural light deeper into interior spaces, improving overall occupant well-being and alertness.
- Analyze how light quality, color rendering, and controllability of lighting systems directly influence occupant comfort, productivity, satisfaction, and ability to personalize their visual environment.
