2023 Introduction to Building Automation Integration

Gary Meshberg, Legrand and C. Webster Marsh, Boston Illumination Group WednesdayMarch 8, 20232:30pm – 3:30pm EST Room Location: Gramercy IntermediateCredit: 1 LU / HSW Today’s lighting control systems integrate a number of devices and can work with HVAC, A/V, security, and other building systems. Integrating these within a building automation system (BAS) can yield significant benefits, from maximizing energy savings and cost efficiencies to making the building more responsive to occupants and able to enact IoT strategies. In some projects, the lighting controls design may be integral to the BAS, and coordination may be the responsibility of the control system designer. This seminar will helps designers articulate BAS intent, identify integration points, and produce a comprehensive sequence of operations. Working knowledge of lighting and lighting controls are recommended for this session. 2023 Is it Time for LED-to-LED Lighting Conversions?

Tom Nowakowski, Cree Lighting TuesdayMarch 7, 20231:00pm – 2:00pm EST Room Location: Gramercy IntroductoryCredit: 1 LU / HSW The rapid adoption of LED lighting that began more than a decade ago has dramatically reduced the amount of energy require to light our homes and businesses. This reduced energy consumption has not only delivered environmental good but has also helped disperse significant energy saving dollars across the country. However, like legacy light sources, LEDs also shed light over time, and many of the early LED installations have now likely fallen below their original lighting design intent, leaving these applications compromised and in need of luminaire replacements. In this course we’ll examine the need and value of LED-to-LED lighting conversions. Learning Objectives SPEAKERS Tom NowakowskiC&I Regional Sales Manager – Northeast, Cree Lighting As Regional Sales Manager, Tom Nowakowski leads the Northeast Commercial & Industrial sales team at Cree Lighting. 2023 Lighting Effects for Learning with Spectral Shaping

Dr. Michael S. Mott, The University of Mississippi; Daniel Robinson, University of Texas at Arlington; Regan Morse, The University of Mississippi; and Lauren Saltzman, The University of Mississippi Virtual MondayMarch 6, 20239:30am – 10:30am EST IntroductoryCredits n/a Prior research has revealed positive learning effects when students experience bright lighting with specifications set at cooler color temperatures utilizing blue wavelength and higher luminosity. Studies have found improvements for overall learning (Davis & Wilkerson, 2017); test scores (Choi & Suk, 2016); and oral reading fluency (Mott & Robinson, 2012; Mott et al., 2014). Despite these positive effects, such emphases on blue spectral wavelength coupled with high brightness as measured in lux lack visual and non-visual positive responses when compared to lighting with warmer color temperature and less luminosity. Thus, when specifications are set too cool and bright it is not as affectively appealing as warmer red wave length infused light. However, when
