The increasingly complex landscape of LED lighting fixtures and their controls often leave designers conflicted on what approach is best to convey the vast amount of data involved in today’s lighting projects. This course will classify key project information, as well as best practices for conveying that information in a manner that invites clarity, avoids friction in the procurement process, removes scope gaps, and adds flexibility from project inception to as builts.
Attendees should have a basic knowledge of lighting system components and control topologies
Learning Objectives
- Identify over a dozen common data points in a lighting design that must be tracked and documented for successful project bidding and construction. These include fixtures IDs, fixture height, fixture mounting methods, fixture control zoning, area name, control type, DMX or Dali universes and addresses, LED driver ID, LED driver location, LED retrofit bulb type, dimmer system circuit, control hardware origin, user interface ID i.e keypads, and source of emergency power
- Participants will be educated on four major lighting standards specification bodies’ (AIA, IALD, IES, NEC) approach to project documentation and how best to apply these in your every day design packages
- Designers will be able to make the connection between what data is important to document and what method is best to convey this data in ways that facilitate clear communication through the construction process
- Participants, through the aforementioned course curriculum, will be able to action good foundational documentation schemes that ease updates to construction documents from project programming through to turnover and as builts.
