Introductory
What is sustainable lighting? This panel discussion will provide various perspectives along the value chain, including the end user, the lighting designer, the installer and the manufacturer. It will shed light on the considerations and obstacles each party faces in order to make a difference. Panel participants will address how they design, procure and implement sustainable choices and manage stakeholders. They will share real-world examples as well as guidelines, processes and programs they’ve developed or follow to achieve sustainability goals.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will be able to explain the principles of sustainable lighting and how/why it encompasses more than energy efficiency
- Participants will have a better understanding of guidelines for selecting sustainable lighting options and the role of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and Declare labeling
- Participants will learn about the challenges and opportunities that players across the value chain see in adopting sustainable lighting solutions
- Participants will understand why stakeholder engagement should be part of any climate strategy and the right questions to ask to understand clients’ goals.
Speakers

Maurice Loosschilder is the Global Head of Sustainability at Signify. He is responsible for the creation and execution of Signify’s ‘Brighter Lives, Better World’ sustainability program, with ambitious commitments to improve Signify’s positive impact on the environment and society.
Maurice has more than 23 years of experience in the lighting industry with Philips and now Signify. Prior to his current role, he held the positions of Head of Sustainability Strategy and Reporting and Director, Collection and Recycling. Maurice has served on the Supervisory Boards of four e-waste collection and recycling organizations across Europe. In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Maurice serves on the board of the United Nations Global Compact Network Netherlands.
Maurice graduated Cum Laude from the Technical University of Eindhoven and holds a MSc degree in Industrial Engineering and Management Science and a BSc degree in Electrical Engineering. He completed the Executive Leadership and Transformation Program at Harvard Business School Executive Education and the Board Certificate training for supervisory board members at Board Company.

Migda Colon-Dieppa is a Design and Compliance Manager within the Planning & Capital Project Management group at Columbia University, where she supports sustainability initiatives and reviews capital projects documentation to ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and university standards. This includes the development and continuous updating of design requirements and technical guidelines.
In past roles, she has worked as an architect and project manager, overseeing large to small scale interior designs within budget and deadlines.
Migda received her bachelor’s degree in both Fine Arts and in Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design and Bachelor in Environmental Design from the Universidad de Puerto Rico.

Beth Brenner is responsible for corporate communications in North America for Signify. She has been with the company and worked in the lighting industry since 2016.
