Introductory

The parallel evolution of LED’s and solid state sources WITH digital control and programming:

The points I’d like to focus on in this presentation will attempt to connect the dots, if you will, as to how we evolved and progressed with developing this compatible technology in just the last few decades. A relatively short amount of time given how long we used incandescent, halogen and gas discharge sources with extremely basic control systems.

Learning Objectives

  • Analog to Digital and how Rock and Roll played a part.
  • Introduction of robotics as well as the use of LED light sources.
  • Integration of entertainment technology into the architectural world.
  • Further evolvement of digital technology to include video sources that can also be integrated into the architecture of today.

Marsha Stern Lighting Design & Consulting, Inc.
Marsha Stern, a lighting designer, programmer, technician and production manager whose career began in the music business and spans the NYC Nightclub and Special Events circuit from the late 70s through the mid 90s, when she began to pioneer the use of entertainment technologies in architectural lighting design, now known as Architainment. Marsha incorporated as Marsha Stern Lighting Design & Consulting, Inc. in April 1999, actively working as an independent designer, programmer and consultant until 2017, when she joined Acclaim Lighting, the architectural division of ADJ Group. 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic brought everything to a grinding halt, including her tenure with ADJ Group. Since then, she has delved into a couple of her passion projects, which resulted in creating a legacy website dedicated to Roy Thode, an iconic DJ from the glory days of disco, and a podcast, The Heartbeat Of The Dance Floor. “I’m embracing what seems to be my third career as a Nightlife Historian, which combines my life experiences from both the musical and lighting/production world.”
