This presentation will focus on when, why and how to engage a systems integrator to ensure a painless and successful end result. This will be a 2 part (40 minute) presentation followed by Q & A. Part 1) What is a systems integrator and why does my project need one? Not every project needs a systems integrator and during this portion we will differentiate between projects where one is not needed and projects where it would be best to include a systems integrator in the specifications. (20 minutes) Part 2) Once I have determined my project needs a systems integrator, what is the best method for choosing one and getting them involved. During this portion we will go over how to specify a systems integrator, where the specifications should live in the spec documents and at what stage would it be best to engage the integrator.(20 minutes)
Some knowledge of DMX and other Dynamic protocols may be helpful
Learning Objectives
- Whole systems integration is gaining in popularity as it relates to dynamic lighting and AV projects, there are still many out there experiencing the pain points associated with trying to get a dynamic lighting design installed. The goal is to educate designers on when to consider a systems integrator
- Knowing you need an integrator and then getting one involved and at the proper time is not always easy and our hope is to show how best to engage an integrator through specification documents
- How best to budget for a systems integrator and determine their scope of work
- To give designers the confidence to try something they have been hesitant to try in the past.
Speakers
John has over 20 years of specification sales experience in the lighting industry. In his previous role as the Vice President of Sales for a highly regarded manufacturer, he worked closely with the design community on many world renowned museum, retail and themed projects. John has a Bachelor of Science degree from Syracuse University and a Masters of Business Administration degree from Northeastern University in the United States and is a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America.
In addition to being a speaker at many industry events, he has guest lectured at both Syracuse University and the University of Rhode Island for their respective Museum Studies graduate programs. As the customer advocate, John understands the highly demanding design and build project world and knows what it takes to deliver winning results to our clients.
Shaun has designed, managed, and delivered complex design-build projects around the world and brings over 15 years worth of lighting design, audio visual systems design, and construction experience to Eos.
He has designed lighting for interior and exterior projects, including community wide lighting master plans. The audio visual systems he has designed includes video mapping projects, custom interactive model tables, a permanent exterior musical instrument, motion-triggered audio and a rain storm in a caiman pen. Fun and guest involvement are key motivators in Shaun’s designs.
Shaun has designed complex lighting control networks for ethernet, DMX 512 and other control protocols and has led the development and implementation of custom designed, web-based control systems for museums and sales centres using ‘off the shelf’ hardware rather than proprietary systems.
In addition to architectural work, Shaun has designed lighting for professional theatre productions and is a strong proponent of collaborative design that draws upon many mediums and backgrounds. Shaun also programs custom software for use in Eos’s projects and has developed custom digital signage software, network-controlled high definition video playback systems, network-controlled audio playback devices and many others.
