Despite more than a decade of industry discussion, TM-30 remains difficult for many lighting designers to confidently apply in practice. Metrics such as fidelity, gamut, and color vector graphics offer valuable insight into color rendering performance, yet translating these concepts into design specifications and client conversations can be challenging. Through an interdisciplinary discussion that brings together design, scientific, and manufacturing perspectives, this panel explores TM-30 from a designer’s perspective, offering practical strategies and real-world examples that help attendees confidently apply ANSI/IES LP-30 guidance to lighting design decisions.
Basic familiarity with color rendering concepts and TM-30 metrics (Rf, Rg, and color vector graphics) is recommended.
Learning Objectives
- Explain the key TM-30 metrics, including fidelity (Rf), gamut (Rg), and color vector graphics, and their relationship to color rendering performance.
- Interpret fidelity, gamut, and color vector graphics when reviewing luminaire performance data.
- Apply ANSI/IES LP-30 recommendations to support lighting design and specification decisions.
- Communicate the value of TM-30 metrics to clients and project stakeholders in a clear and meaningful way.
Speakers

Brittany is an accomplished senior lighting designer who is passionate about environmentally conscious lighting practices, including incorporating smart, low-energy lighting solutions that honor dark sky principles, reducing light pollution, and advocating for responsible lighting ordinances that support all stakeholders especially diverse communities. Brittany is also passionate about advocating for working parents in the building industry.

Carla began her career as an electrical engineer, earning her PE license while working on large-scale projects at a prominent MEP firm. She eventually discovered her true passion in lighting design, contributing to award-winning projects that underscored the transformative power of thoughtful illumination. After more than a decade in design, she transitioned into lighting manufacturing, holding leadership roles in sales, marketing, and product development.

Dr. Tony Esposito is an Assistant Professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Founder of Lighting Research Solutions LLC, Co-Chair of the Color Committee of the Illuminating Engineering Society, and former Director and Light Concept Lead at the International WELL Building Institute. He has authored or coauthored more than 30 publications and 10 industry standards on light and lighting and has delivered more than 60 presentations nationally and internationally. Recognitions include the 2019 Richard Kelly Grant, the 2019 CIBSE Walsh Weston Award, and 2025 Recognition of Extraordinary Dedication and Leadership by the IES. His mission is to study, discover, and deliver evidence-based lighting solutions that conserve energy and promote human health and well-being.
