Organic light emitting diode (OLED) technology offers clear advantages for integration of lighting into products and surroundings. The unique, ultra-thin form factor combined with highly uniform illumination make OLEDs ideal for embedded applications where space is a premium and lighting is viewed directly by the user. When combined with the intrinsic high-contrast segmentation capability, OLEDs bring communication through lighting to the next level, allowing for branding and messaging on a more granular level. In this talk, we will explore the advantages OLEDs offer across current and emerging embedded product markets, including aerospace, rail, automotive, agriculture, furniture, and healthcare.

Knowledge in general lighting and solid-state lighting technologies is helpful for this session.

Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will be able to understand basic OLED technology, what embedded lighting applications are, and how they may be used in such projects.
  2. Participants will be able to recognize the form factor differences between OLED lighting and other light sources and how to effectively use OLED lighting.
  3. Participants will be able to understand OLED panel high-contrast segmentation capability and how to apply segmented OLED technology to explore new and unique designs.
  4. Participants will be able to appreciate the unique design options available to them when using OLED as a building block for their embedded lighting design projects.
