Intermediate

LEDs excel in museum exhibition lighting vis-a-vis their superior inherent, illumination characteristics of presentation, preservation, and conservation.

A basic understanding of LED lighting system design featuring constant current drivers, warm dimming, color temperature, color rendering (CRI) and 0-10 dimming protocols.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will learn to plan, design and deploy LED lighting systems for presenting, preserving and conserving resources in the illumination of valuable objects, including art, artifacts and items typical of museum collections.
  • Participants will gain a foundational knowledge and understanding of the tenets of Reflected Energy Matching as applied to the illumination of matter and, more specifically, rare objects, art, artifacts and historical documents.
  • Participants will experience the performance of superior, high color rendering index (CRI) LED light sources through hands-on lighting/dimming demonstrations, color rendering comparisons and side-by-side dimming protocol simulations.
  • Participants will learn how to use a professional light meter to measure foot-candles (LUX) and gain a practical understanding of the significance of accurate light output measurements as applied to setting appropriate light levels per best practices and accepted (per industry) light level standards.
