Light is the primary input to our Circadian Clock – but are we ignoring the potential of light to impact our health and wellness beyond Melatonin suppression? This presentation examines the limitations of current Circadian metrics, explores the other ways in which spectra impacts human physiology, and concludes with a review of color systems that allow for sufficient flexibility to accommodate the science of Light and Health new discoveries and research becoming available.

Course participants should have a basic understanding of SPDs, the CIE diagram and metamerism.

Learning Objectives

  1. Participants should gain a working knowledge of the limitations of current Circadian metrics
  2. Participants should be able to evaluate dynamic lighting system spectra for Circadian efficacy across multiple metrics
  3. Participants should be able to judge the flexibility of dynamic lighting systems to accommodate future research/discovery in both Circadian and non-Circadian areas of human health
  4. Participants should gain a basic understanding of non-Circadian benefits of light and use cases for such lighting
