This course examines the principles and applications of ambient energy powered IoT devices in building control systems. Participants will learn how these devices can contribute to more sustainable building operations by reducing reliance on batteries and minimizing maintenance requirements.
Lighting Control System experience is recommended.
Learning Objectives
- Explore the principles of energy harvesting technology and how it can be applied to create batteryless solutions for building control systems.
- Identify at least three types of ambient energy sources (e.g., solar, kinetic, thermal) that can be harnessed for powering wireless sensors and controls in buildings.
- Analyze the potential energy savings and environmental benefits of implementing batteryless, energy-harvesting devices in building automation systems compared to traditional wired or battery-powered solutions.
- Evaluate the practical considerations, limitations, and best practices for integrating batteryless control solutions into various building types and applications, including retrofit projects and new construction.
