Introductory

A case study to solve a vexing problem of interoperability in outdoor connected lighting systems was tackled through a cooperative effort between ANSI C136, DALI and Zhaga experts. Issues involving the 24-Vdc AUX power supplies in NLC and drivers, the 250-mA DALI bus current limit and default settings for an AUX supply and DALI bus supply collided. The story of teamwork and creative problem solving will be presented to appreciate the role of standards for interoperability. A project involving multiple vendors contributing interoperable products will be shared.

No prior knowledge required. This is an introductory course suitable for all experience levels, from the student to the experienced design professional.

Learning Objectives

  • Share deeper insights into the challenges faced by standards developers to bring interoperable solutions to the market.
  • Confidently specify products for outdoor lighting systems from multiple vendors that work well together.
  • Provide detailed tenders requiring compliance with interoperable standards from ANSI, DALI and Zhaga.
  • Reduce the cost associated with secondary testing for compatibility of products from different vendors.
