Introductory
The presentation aims to demystify LED lighting for architects and interior designers by outlining the core principals of lighting design and LED design specification criteria.
Learning Objectives
1. Understand the essential lighting core principals of design including scale, maintenance, aesthetic and light level targets based on function/space requirements.
2. Comprehend specification considerations including quality of light, distribution, module versus “retrofit”. Understand why LEDs are not created equal despite equal CCT or CRI.
3. Comprehend dimming considerations and Integration with various control systems. To understand the varying load types available and driver options for optimal dimming performance.
4. Assimilate future proofing strategies for integration into current design practice and be cognizant of emerging lamp technologies for future lighting design.

Architectural lighting designer Eileen M.E. Pierce is the Founder and Creative Director of Pierce Lighting Studio. With over 20 years of experience, Eileen’s background of interior and exterior lighting encompasses an award-winning array of project types ranging from commercial and private institutions, museums, exhibitions, galleries & private residential art collections to exterior building facades, campuses and parks.
Ms. Pierce’s fine arts education, complemented with an M.A. in Architectural Lighting Design, has cultivated a unique perspective of the built environment. Her distinct design visualization has led to an impressive portfolio. Recently completed projects include private residential art collections, Galerie Perrotin, Christie’s Rockefeller Center Boardroom and West Galleries, Unilever’s Upfield Corporate Office, multiple Glossier pop-up locations and the High Museum of Art Renovation and Daylight Intervention within the Stent Building.
Eileen was a contributing team member for the IESNA Recommended Practices RP-30 for Museum and Gallery Lighting. She is a member of the Designer’s Lighting Forum NY, IESNYC and The Architectural League of NY.
